A frantic third-period comeback fell short against Tampa Bay as defensive lapses overshadowed a multi-point night for Neal Pionk and Mark Scheifele’s long-awaited offensive breakthrough.

The Winnipeg Jets suffered their seventh straight defeat on Thursday night, losing 6-4 to the Tampa Bay Lightning despite a late comeback attempt. Mark Scheifele broke out of a four-game scoring slump with three assists, while Neal Pionk scored two goals in place of the injured Josh Morrissey. However, a four-goal second period from Tampa Bay, led by Pontus Holmberg, put Winnipeg in an insurmountable deficit.
Winnipeg attempted to rally in the third period with goals from Dylan Samberg, Pionk, and Kyle Connor to pull within one. Holmberg sealed Tampa Bay's win with an empty-net goal. Goaltender Stuart Skinner was pulled after allowing five goals on 21 shots, paving the way for Nico Daws to stop all nine shots in relief.
