The Red Devils captain raised eyebrows when he questioned his manager's tactics after their side's 4-1 defeat by Como in the Champions League, and was subsequently then left out of of the team.

Alan Shearer has claimed that Bruno Fernandes has tarnished his Manchester United legacy following public criticism of manager Michael Carrick. The club captain questioned Carrick's tactics following a 4-1 Champions League defeat to Como, which led to Fernandes being dropped for the subsequent 3-0 Premier League loss against Bournemouth. Speaking to Betfair, Shearer argued that Fernandes owes the club a performance and warned that recent clear-the-air talks between the pair might only be papering over the cracks.
Manchester United's hierarchy decided against dismissing Carrick despite sitting in 16th place in the Premier League, just one point above the relegation zone. Club executives held crisis meetings involving Sir Jim Ratcliffe and the Glazers before granting the manager a reprieve. Fernandes is expected to return to the squad for the upcoming fixture against Chelsea as United look to recover from their worst league start in 40 years.
