The Lakers got 21 points from Luka Doncic in the first quarter Friday night. They led the Warriors by 23. They looked like they might win by 40. Instead, they lost by 17. Now, I’m no mathematician, but that seems…

The Los Angeles Lakers suffered a 112-95 defeat against the Golden State Warriors in their NBA Cup opener despite a dominant performance from Luka Doncic. Doncic scored 21 points in the first quarter to give the Lakers a 38-15 lead, eventually finishing with 37 points. However, the Warriors erased the 23-point deficit by reversing the scoreline 38-15 in the second quarter.
Sam Amico writes that the Lakers collapsed once Doncic went to the bench, scoring just 57 points across the final three quarters. Amico argues that the Lakers, who committed 20 turnovers and surrendered an 18-0 fourth-quarter run led by Stephen Curry, must find ways to win without over-relying on Doncic.
