Audi has appointed former Mercedes-AMG High Performance Powertrains managing director Thomas Fuhr as chief executive of its Formula 1 power unit division, effective November 1. Fuhr will head Audi Formula Racing GmbH in Neuburg an der Donau, Germany, overseeing the development and manufacturing of the team's power unit, hybrid system, and gearbox ahead of Audi's Formula 1 entry.
The appointment allows Chief Technology Officer Stefan Dreyer to focus on technical development while Chief Operating Officer Christian Foyer manages site operations. Audi F1 team principal Mattia Binotto welcomed the restructuring, emphasizing Fuhr's extensive management background as key to establishing Audi as a top-tier manufacturer. The Neuburg facility currently features over 20 engine and component test benches.
