Nikita Kucherov told teammates and Tampa Bay Lightning management that he won't be re-sign with the team and that he wants a trade.

Tampa Bay Lightning forward Nikita Kucherov has requested a trade and informed management that he will not sign a contract extension with the team. Kucherov and his agent, Dan Milstein, met with Lightning general manager Julien BriseBois to deliver the formal trade request. The reigning Hart Trophy winner subsequently informed his teammates during a team flight to Nashville.
Kucherov is currently in the final season of an eight-year, $76 million contract and is slated to become an unrestricted free agent next summer. Contract negotiations between the two sides reportedly failed to bridge substantial gaps regarding term and salary, despite rumors of an offer totaling $15 million annually. Kucherov reportedly holds a 10-team trade list.
