Scottish football ecosystem need protected ‘from a societal, sporting and economic perspective’

The Scottish Football Association has cautioned the SPFL over moves to scrap the traditional Saturday 3pm television blackout, expressing concern over the wider impact on Scottish football. The SPFL recently issued tender documents allowing broadcasters to bid for live rights to all Premiership matches, including the 3pm window, starting in 2029.
Ending the restriction requires agreement from all four UK home associations under UEFA Article 48. The SFA fears lifting the blackout, combined with potential Premier League changes, could deter match attendance and would reportedly seek compensation to protect smaller clubs.
