The Tampa Bay Rays have officially exercised their $20 million club option on right-handed starting pitcher Drew Rasmussen for the 2027 season, according to reporter Marc Topkin. Rasmussen served as the ace of the rotation, finishing with a 16-5 record and a 2.67 ERA across 30 starts while earning his second consecutive American League All-Star selection.
Rasmussen's return secures a key rotation spot after starter Nick Martinez declined a mutual option following the Rays' 4-1 World Series defeat to the Milwaukee Brewers. Writer Adam Martin notes that while retaining Rasmussen under contract is valuable, an offseason trade remains possible given Tampa Bay's typical payroll constraints.
