Fernando Alonso expressed extreme frustration after a Honda power-unit issue eliminated him in Q1 during qualifying for the Mexico City Grand Prix. A water-pressure problem linked to the energy recovery system emerged following earlier power loss concerns in final practice. Aston Martin instructed Alonso to stop on track to prevent further engine damage, leaving him 18th on the timesheet.
Honda confirmed it will change power-unit components, resulting in an upcoming grid penalty for Alonso. Additionally, the Spanish driver received a reprimand from race stewards for failing to refit his steering wheel when leaving the cockpit.
