The Story in 60 Seconds

Lewis Hamilton claimed his first pole position for Ferrari at the Mexico City Grand Prix, edging out Mercedes driver George Russell by 0.009 seconds. The result marked Hamilton's 105th career pole and his first since the 2023 Hungarian Grand Prix. Ferrari teammate Charles Leclerc qualified third, ahead of Red Bull's Max Verstappen, who took fourth after a lockup on his final sector run.

Championship leader Kimi Antonelli qualified fifth but will start fourth following a one-place grid penalty for Verstappen. Antonelli remains poised to secure the title on Sunday unless Russell or Hamilton win and the Italian finishes outside the required scoring positions. Liam Lawson was disqualified from qualifying due to an electrical deployment infringement and will start from the back.
