The Carolina Panthers must create a new defensive identity under interim coordinator Todd Wash after firing Ejiro Evero.

Carolina Panthers head coach Dave Canales fired defensive coordinator Ejiro Evero and passing game coordinator Jonathan Cooley following back-to-back losses. The coaching changes were enacted after the defense surrendered over 40 points and 250 rushing yards, prompting Canales to name Todd Wash as the interim defensive coordinator.
Writer Jared Feinberg argues that Evero's exit forces the team to confront an identity crisis regarding their scheme. Feinberg suggests Wash may implement a more aggressive, attacking defense featuring single-gap penetrations, more man coverage, and an expanded role for safety Zakee Wheatley.
