Opponents have highlighted aggressive traps and perimeter pressure as the optimal defensive strategy to disrupt the Los Angeles Lakers following their recent defeat. According to a report by Dan Woike of The Athletic, players indicated they would emphasize trapping schemes against the Lakers' ball-handlers. Both Luka Doncic and Austin Reaves acknowledged the team must improve against double-teams and blitzes, with Reaves noting his need to cut down on giveaways.
The defensive pressure proved especially damaging during the Lakers' 112-95 loss to the Golden State Warriors, where Reaves committed eight turnovers for a second consecutive game. Los Angeles struggled significantly during bench stretches, being outscored by 26 points in the 11 minutes Doncic spent off the floor. Head coach JJ Redick faces the challenge of adjusting offensive spacing and rotation pairings to protect the ball against aggressive defenses.
