LeBron James has statistically been one of the best defenders in the NBA, something which the 76ers probably did not foresee when they got him.

Writer Nicolas Kyle Pring argues that LeBron James has delivered an unexpected defensive renaissance for the Philadelphia 76ers to begin the season. After joining Philadelphia in the offseason, the veteran forward has stood out as an effective, multi-positional defender through the team's first seven games.
Despite subpar early offensive play, the 76ers opened with a 6-1 record behind the league's fourth-ranked defense. Pring notes that opponents shot just 27.8 percent against James prior to facing the Charlotte Hornets, giving head coach Nick Nurse valuable tactical versatility.
