ST. PETERSBURG -- The Rays have been saying for years that Taylor Walls is the best defensive shortstop in baseball. While the industry has appreciated his glovework for a long time, Walls started to receive national recognition for his glovework…

Tampa Bay Rays shortstop Taylor Walls won his first career Rawlings Gold Glove Award, becoming the first player in franchise history to win the honor at shortstop. Walls previously finished as a finalist in 2023 and 2025, and he is the first Rays infielder to win a Gold Glove since Evan Longoria in 2017.
Despite hitting just .222 on the season, the 30-year-old was vital to the American League champions' run to the World Series through elite defense. Walls recorded 21 defensive runs saved, ranking tied for third across the entire Major Leagues and far outpacing all other shortstops.
