The rain made the field sloppy, the rain made the Falcons sloppy. In the end, they couldn’t beat a completely one-dimensional Buccaneers team on the road that barely even tried to pass the ball and seemed to relish how embarrassing…

The Atlanta Falcons missed an opportunity to take the lead in the NFC South after suffering a 16-0 shutout loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in heavy rain during Week 8. Tampa Bay relied exclusively on the ground game to secure the victory, becoming the first NFL team in over 50 years to win a contest without completing a single pass while rushing for more than 300 yards against the Falcons defense.
Atlanta struggled offensively throughout the contest, with quarterback Michael Penix Jr. throwing four interceptions. Buccaneers running back Bucky Irving added a rushing touchdown, while Falcons kicker Nick Folk missed a 53-yard field goal attempt. Writer Dave Choate criticized the offensive game plan under Tommy Rees and noted that the Falcons now drop to 1-2 in division play ahead of their upcoming international game against the Cincinnati Bengals.
