The New York Mets have signed infielder Christian Cairo to a major league contract, the team announced. According to Anthony DiComo of MLB.com, Cairo agreed to a one-year split deal with financial terms not yet disclosed. Cairo initially joined the Mets late in the season after being claimed off waivers from the Philadelphia Phillies.
The 25-year-old infielder spent most of the season with Triple-A Lehigh Valley, where he recorded a .676 OPS, 90 walks, and 25 stolen bases. Cairo features defensive versatility across the infield and outfield, possesses two minor league options, and could compete for a utility spot on the Mets bench.
