The Story in 60 Seconds

The Pittsburgh Pirates have extended second baseman Brandon Lowe a $23.15 million qualifying offer to stay with the club for 2027. This marks only the third time in franchise history that Pittsburgh has issued a qualifying offer to a player. Lowe has until November 17 to decide whether to accept the one-year deal or enter free agency on the open market.

Lowe arrived in Pittsburgh via a three-team trade prior to the 2026 campaign and delivered a career-best 5.4 WAR season. He led all Major League second basemen with 35 home runs and drove in 96 runs, while helping guide the Pirates to an 82-win season, their first winning record since 2018.
