MLB veteran was due $8-million US next season…

The Toronto Blue Jays announced they have declined an $8 million US club option on outfielder Myles Straw for the 2027 season, sending him to free agency. Under the original trade terms with the Cleveland Guardians, Cleveland will cover the $1.75 million buyout. The decision does not preclude the Blue Jays from pursuing Straw on a cheaper free-agent deal following his two seasons in Toronto.
Toronto reportedly felt Straw's bench and defensive role was not worth the $8 million price tag, preferring to allocate payroll elsewhere. The emergence of center fielder Brett Bateman and the expected return of Anthony Santander from injury also factored into the front office's roster decision.
