November 1 has come and gone but player contracts remain the talk of the town just days out from the World Cup semis which has led to one of the game’s biggest stars calling for a change to the current…
Melbourne Storm captain Harry Grant has proposed shortening the NRL season to ease player workloads and resolve ongoing contract distractions. With player transfer speculation dominating headlines around the November 1 deadline, Grant suggested fewer regular-season fixtures would allow athletes to focus on negotiations following major tournaments like the World Cup.
Grant noted that a condensed domestic calendar could also create dedicated windows for representative football, including State of Origin and international tests. The suggested changes come as the NRL considers future structural revisions with the potential entry of expansion teams from Perth and Papua New Guinea.
