Carlos Prates has claimed that reigning UFC welterweight champion Islam Makhachev "chickened out" of a scheduled matchup between the two fighters. Makhachev was originally expected to defend his title against Prates at UFC 336 on January 30, but the champion ultimately withdrew from negotiations.
Makhachev reportedly stepped away from the proposed fight citing reasons concerning the division. Meanwhile, Carlos Prates is linked to a bout against Michael Morales, with Makhachev previously teasing retirement and indicating he has limited time remaining in his mixed martial arts career.
