Carson Benge's rookie season had almost everything except a pennant race.

MLB Network analyst Tom Verducci compared New York Mets right fielder Carson Benge to Jackson Merrill after Benge was named a finalist for National League Rookie of the Year. Benge earned the nomination alongside Sal Stewart and JJ Wetherholt after recording 20 home runs and 22 stolen bases during his debut campaign. Verducci praised the rookie's throwing arm, speed, and midseason swing adjustments.
Mets manager Andy Green commended Benge's well-rounded offense and defense, noting his impact despite New York's 74-88 last-place finish in the NL East. If Benge wins the award on November 9, he will become the seventh player in Mets franchise history to claim Rookie of the Year honors.
