NEW YORK -- No surprise here: Carson Benge is a National League Rookie of the Year finalist. The only question is whether he achieved enough in September to win it. The Baseball Writers’ Association of America on Monday named Benge…

Carson Benge of the New York Mets has been officially named a finalist for the National League Rookie of the Year award by the BBWAA. The Mets outfielder was selected alongside fellow finalists Sal Stewart of the Cincinnati Reds and JJ Wetherholt of the St. Louis Cardinals, representing the top three vote-getters in the National League.
Benge became the first Mets rookie to achieve 20 home runs and 20 stolen bases, finishing the season with a 4.3 bWAR. He recovered from an early-season slump to mount a strong push against Stewart's 32 homers and Wetherholt's strong defense, with the award winner scheduled to be announced on November 9.
