Who Is Todd Wash? Meet the Carolina Panthers Interim Defensive Coordinator

The Carolina Panthers have promoted defensive line coach Todd Wash to interim defensive coordinator following the dismissal of Ejiro Evero. Head coach Dave Canales confirmed that Wash will take over defensive play-calling duties for the rest of the season. The coaching change comes despite Carolina sitting tied atop the NFC South with a 3-4 record, driven by inconsistent defensive play, poor run defense, and scheme mismatches.

Wash brings 20 years of NFL coaching experience, including leading the Jacksonville Jaguars' premier defense during their 2017 AFC Championship Game run. Under Wash, Carolina is expected to shift toward a base 4-3 alignment with aggressive single-gap penetration up front, utilizing defensive tackles Derrick Brown and Bobby Brown III, while leaning on simplified Cover 1 and Cover 3 secondary schemes.
