Man Utd receive Unai Emery verdict amid Michael Carrick sack talk

Barcelona manager Hansi Flick has praised Aston Villa manager Unai Emery as one of Europe's top coaches amid reports linking Emery to the Manchester United managerial post. Pressure continues to mount on current Manchester United boss Michael Carrick following a dismal stretch of only two wins across 13 matches this season. Carrick is scheduled to remain on the touchline for United's upcoming Champions League fixture against Roma.

Manchester United reportedly admire Emery, but prizing him away from Aston Villa would require a £20 million (€23.9 million) compensation fee, according to The Guardian. Villa remain determined to keep Emery, who guided them to the 2026 Europa League title. United are also reportedly assessing alternative managerial options, including Eddie Howe and Julian Nagelsmann.
