Colt Emerson's rookie season didn't go as planned, but a wrist injury may help explain his struggles. Here's why the Mariners shouldn't give up on the young player just yet.

Sodo Mojo's Sydney Jones argues that the Seattle Mariners should not overlook Colt Emerson's long-term potential despite a difficult, injury-plagued rookie campaign. Emerson debuted in May 2026 and hit a three-run homer for his first major league hit, but his offensive production declined significantly before he underwent season-ending wrist surgery in August.
Jones notes that Emerson played through a displaced wrist tendon that hampered his performance to a .581 OPS. Backed by an eight-year, $95 million pre-debut contract extension, Emerson is expected to recover in time for next season and battle to reclaim a starting role.
