The Florida Panthers defeated the Chicago Blackhawks 5-3 on Wednesday night despite a late push by the visitors. Florida jumped out to an early advantage with first-period goals from Sandis Vilmanis and Carter Verhaeghe, before former Blackhawks defenseman Seth Jones made it 3-0 in the second period.
Chicago responded late in the middle frame with a goal from Roman Kantserov, assisted by Ethan Del Mastro and Connor Bedard. Frank Nazar then cut Florida's lead to 3-2 midway through the third period with a shorthanded breakaway goal, but the Blackhawks ultimately fell short.
