The Story in 60 Seconds

DeForest Buckner informed Indianapolis Colts management, including Carlie Irsay-Gordon and interim general manager Ed Dodds, that he wanted to be traded back to the San Francisco 49ers. Indianapolis granted the 33-year-old defensive tackle's request, trading him to San Francisco in exchange for a fourth-round pick after growing frustrated over the team's playoff struggles.

San Francisco will cover the remaining $7.94 million of Buckner's contract, while the Colts absorb the bulk of his dead money. Buckner reunites with Nick Bosa on the 49ers' defensive front after spending over six seasons in Indianapolis, where he recorded 47 sacks and made two Pro Bowls.
