The Story in 60 Seconds

Major League Baseball has submitted an amended CBA proposal to the MLB Players Association, delaying the proposed salary cap and floor until 2028. The updated proposal increases the cap to $258.2 million and raises the floor to $180.2 million, based on a 50-50 split of projected 2028 revenues. Additionally, the league offered to disburse $282 million in luxury tax revenue directly to players as cash payments in 2027 rather than allocating it to retirement benefits.

The MLBPA swiftly rejected the proposal, arguing that the system would drastically reduce player compensation and restrict fundamental rights. The union remains strongly opposed to any salary cap and floor structure. With the current contract expiring at 11:59 pm ET on December 1, owners intend to initiate a lockout if a new deal is not finalized.
