Cerullo: World Series champion managers headline Hall of Fame era ballot
Key Things to Know
  • Mac Cerullo highlights Bruce Bochy and Dusty Baker as the primary frontrunners on the Hall of Fame's era ballot.
  • The eight-candidate non-player ballot features managers and executives whose primary contributions occurred since 1980.
  • Candidates require 75% support from the 16-member committee, while voters can choose only three names each.
The Story in 60 Seconds

Mac Cerullo argues that World Series-winning managers Bruce Bochy and Dusty Baker are clear frontrunners for the Baseball Hall of Fame's Contemporary Baseball Era Committee ballot. The eight-person non-player ballot includes managers, umpires, and executives whose key contributions came after 1980, including Joe Maddon, Lou Piniella, Sandy Alderson, Brian Sabean, Ted Turner, and Bill White.

Cerullo notes that voting rules require 75% support while limiting voters to three names, making it mathematically unlikely for more than two candidates to gain induction. The 16-member committee will meet on December 6 in San Diego to vote, with results airing on MLB Network that evening.
