Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso decided to start youngster Estevao against Manchester United because the opposition was considered physically weaker than most Premier League teams, according to the Daily Mail. Alonso and his staff had reportedly harbored concerns about the Brazilian's ability to cope with the league's physical demands, making United an ideal matchup.
Estevao performed well in the fixture and should have scored, according to the report. Attention has now turned to whether Alonso will start the Brazilian again in Chelsea's upcoming fixture against Sunderland.
