After a successful rookie season, Lightning forward Dominic James is expected to be an important part of the organization moving forward.

The Tampa Bay Lightning have reassigned forward Dominic James to their AHL affiliate, the Syracuse Crunch. Head coach Jon Cooper explained that the move was primarily made to help the 24-year-old gain more consistent ice time and reps following a preseason hand injury. James is one of only two forwards on the roster exempt from waivers.
The roster decision coincides with center Yanni Gourde nearing a return from offseason hip surgery ahead of schedule. Gourde could potentially return during Tampa Bay's upcoming four-game road trip, while Victor Hedman, Anthony Cirelli, and Jake Guentzel are all expected to play Thursday against Chicago.
