The Los Angeles Lakers have assigned guard Bronny James to their G League affiliate, the Coachella Valley Lakers, ahead of the minor league season opener. In his third NBA season, James has seen limited playing time under head coach JJ Redick, averaging only 2.4 minutes across five appearances during the team's strong start.
Rookie Cameron Carr was also assigned to the Coachella Valley Lakers on the same day. James had originally secured a spot on the 2026-27 opening night roster over 2024 first-round pick Dalton Knecht, who was waived by Los Angeles and subsequently joined the New York Knicks.
