Depth scoring and a revitalized penalty kill has helped keep Carolina atop the NHL, while goaltender Brandon Bussi found a bit of form.

The Carolina Hurricanes moved to 13-3-2 on the season and maintained their position atop the NHL standings after splitting a two-game road trip. Carolina suffered a 4-1 loss against Nashville before bouncing back with a 5-3 victory over the New York Islanders. Despite the positive results overall, head coach Rod Brind'Amour voiced concern over the team's loose play and frequent turnovers.
Goaltender Brandon Bussi made 24 saves against New York to earn his first victory since October 13. Forward Taylor Hall returned from a nine-game absence due to upper-body injuries, logging 10:30 of ice time, while Carolina's penalty kill went 6-for-6 over the two-game road stretch despite missing captain Jordan Staal.
