Jessica Pegula was caught on an active court microphone calling Mirra Andreeva "a diva" who "needs to be humbled" during a WTA Finals practice session in Indian Wells. Pegula was speaking with her coach Mark Knowles following a practice session with Andreeva, which was streamed on the WTA YouTube channel. The WTA issued an apology and accepted full responsibility for not informing players that microphones were turned on.
Pegula also criticized Andreeva's coach Conchita Martinez during the conversation, though she praised Andreeva's tennis ability. Pegula's representative stated she was unaware the microphones were active and has reached out to apologize. The WTA confirmed it removed the footage and disabled audio on upcoming practice livestreams.
