Thomas Tuchel has said Everton midfielder Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall was 'very close' to earning a maiden England call-up for this month's international break.
England manager Thomas Tuchel revealed that Everton midfielder Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall came very close to securing his first senior national team call-up. Despite strong form for Everton, including two Premier League goals this season and a man-of-the-match display against Newcastle United, the 28-year-old was ultimately omitted from Friday's squad announcement.
Tuchel explained that he views Dewsbury-Hall as an attacking eight or ten rather than a central midfielder, citing fierce squad competition in those positions. While Dewsbury-Hall missed out, Everton teammates Jordan Pickford, Jarrad Branthwaite, and James Garner were all selected.
