The Kansas City Royals are hiring San Francisco Giants hitting coach Hunter Mense for an assistant coaching role. Mense spent one season in San Francisco on manager Tony Vitello's coaching staff before departing for Kansas City, leaving a vacancy on the Giants' staff this offseason.

Prior to his stint with the Giants, Mense served as an assistant hitting coach for the Toronto Blue Jays. In his single season guiding San Francisco, the offense ranked eighth in hits and tenth in batting average, but finished near the bottom of MLB in walks, runs scored, and on-base percentage.
