Gianni Infantino's first challenger for the presidency tells BBC Sport why he is standing in the election.

Japan Football Association honorary president and FIFA Council member Kozo Tashima has announced his candidacy to run against incumbent Gianni Infantino in the upcoming FIFA presidential election. Tashima stated he intends to draw on his "samurai spirit" as he mounts the challenge ahead of the election scheduled for March 18, 2027, in Rabat, Morocco.
Infantino has served as FIFA president since 2016 and remains a candidate for re-election. Candidates seeking the presidency must secure endorsements from at least five member associations and pass eligibility checks, with former Swiss international Ramon Vega also announcing his own bid.
