AC Milan defender Koni De Winter has turned down a call-up to the Belgium national team for upcoming Nations League fixtures. National team coach Mark van Bommel confirmed the decision, stating that the 24-year-old felt uncomfortable with his situation and chose not to join the squad, while warning that the choice will carry long-term consequences.
De Winter did not play any minutes during Belgium's previous four group games against Italy, France, and Turkey. At club level, the center-back has become a regular starter under AC Milan manager Ruben Amorim, making 10 Serie A and four Europa League appearances this season after joining from Genoa in 2025.
