The Story in 60 Seconds

Giacomo Calò's agent, Vincenzo Pisacane, has strongly criticized Italy manager Roberto Mancini for omitting the Frosinone midfielder from the national squad. Mancini selected a 31-man squad featuring ten midfielders for upcoming Nations League matches against France and Belgium, but left out the 29-year-old playmaker. Pisacane argued that Calò is statistically the best midfielder in Italy and warned that the snub risks becoming the death of meritocracy.

Calò has recorded five league goals and created the most chances in Serie A this season, helping sixth-placed Frosinone sit above Juventus and Napoli. Pisacane also revealed that Calò and Frosinone previously rejected summer interest from Sampdoria, while praising head coach Massimiliano Alvini for his strong relationship with the player.
