NBA fans were devastated by Kristaps Porzingis' decision about his career.

Golden State Warriors big man Kristaps Porzingis announced on Friday that he is stepping away from basketball to prioritize his health. The Latvian star has not played in the 2026-27 season due to health issues and is reportedly dealing with Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome (POTS). Porzingis stated that his body did not respond as anticipated during his ramp-up, prompting widespread reactions from devastated NBA fans.
According to Luca Evans of the San Francisco Chronicle, Porzingis' statement is not a retirement announcement, as he plans to work with the Warriors on next steps. The franchise has reportedly withheld payments on his $20 million salary because he has not rendered services, a ruling that Porzingis and the NBPA decided not to contest.
