The Story in 60 Seconds

Los Angeles Lakers center Walker Kessler has responded strongly after head coach JJ Redick challenged him to improve his rebounding. Following Redick's call to control the defensive glass before an October 28 game against the Clippers, Kessler posted three consecutive double-doubles. He is currently averaging 14.4 points, 10.2 rebounds, and 2.7 blocks per game, helping the Lakers achieve a 7-2 record.

Acquired from Utah via a sign-and-trade on a four-year, $130 million contract, Kessler anchors the Lakers' defense. The team boasts a 110.1 defensive rating with Kessler on the court compared to 117.2 when he sits. Despite battling back from last season's shoulder surgery, his rim protection and screening have played a vital role alongside Luka Dončić and Austin Reaves.
