Mariners To Hire Tanner Swanson As Bench Coach

The Seattle Mariners are hiring Tanner Swanson as their new bench coach, according to a report by Joel Sherman of The New York Post. Swanson previously served as the major league quality control coach and catching coordinator for the New York Yankees. A native of Washington state, the move represents a homecoming for the 44-year-old coach, who first joined the Yankees' major league staff in November 2019.

Swanson joins the staff under newly hired, first-time manager Jason Kanzler. As bench coach, Swanson is expected to serve as second-in-command and take on responsibilities beyond catching coordination to help support Kanzler. The Mariners are reshaping their dugout following a disappointing 2026 season that saw the dismissals of manager Dan Wilson and former bench coach Manny Acta.
