The Vancouver Whitecaps concluded their regular season with a 2-0 victory over CF Montreal at Stade Saputo on Saturday. Cheikh Sabaly scored the opening goal in the 50th minute, while Mihail Gherasimencov sealed the win with an 83rd-minute strike against teenage goalkeeper Samsy Keita. The result confirmed Montreal's last-place finish in the overall MLS standings after Sporting Kansas City won the tiebreaker.
Vancouver finished atop the Western Conference with 64 points under manager Jesper Sørensen, who set a new MLS record with 127 points across his first two seasons. Meanwhile, Montreal ended a disastrous campaign under interim manager Philippe Eullaffroy, having won only two games following the July post-World Cup resumption.
