Canada international Tajon Buchanan scored his first goal of the season to lead Villarreal to a 2-0 victory over Getafe at the Estadio de la Cerámica on Sunday. Buchanan broke the deadlock in the 80th minute before defender Carlos Romero added a second goal in stoppage time. The result helped head coach Iñigo Pérez's side bounce back from a heavy 6-0 Champions League defeat against Paris Saint-Germain.
Villarreal dominated the match with 72 percent possession and 22 total shots compared to Getafe's nine. The fixture also featured fellow Canadians Tani Oluwaseyi in the starting attack and Nathan Saliba, who returned from injury as an 84th-minute substitute ahead of Canada's Nations League quarterfinals.
