Mark Clattenburg left ‘amazed’ by John Beaton after getting Celtic and Rangers incident wrong

Former referee Mark Clattenburg has expressed his amazement at referee John Beaton's decision not to penalise Rangers defender Emmanuel Fernandez during a Glasgow derby match against Celtic. Fernandez, who had already received a yellow card for a foul on Celtic attacker Camilo Duran, escaped further punishment minutes later after tripping Duran on the left flank. Beaton did not award a foul for the second incident, which prevented a potential sending-off.

Clattenburg explained that VAR could not intervene in the second incident because it involved a missed yellow card rather than a direct red card offence. He noted that had a foul been called, it would have been a clear yellow card for stopping a promising attack, resulting in a red card for Fernandez. The match ultimately ended in a disappointing result for Celtic.
