Former WBA bantamweight champion Shannon Courtenay has revealed she fought her recent bout against Ebonie Cotton with a screw coming out of her knee. Courtenay underwent surgery to address the complications from a previous ACL reconstruction after experiencing severe pain and swelling during her training camp. Doctors also discovered cysts inside her knee during the procedure.
The fight against Cotton ended in a draw, marking another chapter in Courtenay's injury-disrupted career. The British boxer previously won the WBA bantamweight title in 2021 by defeating Ebanie Bridges, but she was later stripped of the belt after missing weight and has since faced multiple physical and mental health challenges.
