ARLINGTON, Texas — Joc Pederson was scheduled to hit Tuesday afternoon, and Texas Rangers manager Skip Schumaker said the club expected a more definitive answer on its designated hitter within about 90 minutes of that session.
Texas Rangers manager Skip Schumaker provided an update on designated hitter Joc Pederson ahead of Tuesday's series opener against the New York Mets at Globe Life Field. Pederson was scheduled to hit off a tee after suffering a small fracture in his left hand on Sept. 12. Schumaker noted that while Pederson felt significantly better, the team was waiting to see how he responded before determining his readiness to play.
The Rangers placed Pederson on the 10-day injured list on Tuesday, retroactive to Sept. 19, making him eligible to return on Sept. 29 when the postseason begins. Texas holds a one-game lead over the Houston Astros in the American League West with six regular-season games remaining.
