Pederson lands on IL with hand fracture, hopes to return for postseason

The Texas Rangers have placed designated hitter Joc Pederson on the injured list with a left hand fracture, ruling him out for the rest of the regular season. Pederson sustained the injury on September 12 after being struck by a 93.3 mph fastball from Arizona Diamondbacks starter Brandon Pfaadt. The placement is retroactive to September 19, keeping open the possibility of a return for a potential AL Wild Card series.

Manager Skip Schumaker noted that Pederson did not make enough progress during hitting sessions to remain active. Pederson hit 25 home runs against right-handed pitching this season while platooning with Justin Foscue. In a corresponding transaction, the Rangers transferred right-handed pitcher Cal Quantrill to the 60-day injured list due to a right lat strain, ending his season.
