Manchester United are one of the biggest sporting institutions in the world - but who actually owns and runs the club is a surprisingly complex story

Manchester United operates under a split control structure shared between the Glazer family and Sir Jim Ratcliffe's INEOS group. The Glazer family, led by executive co-chairmen Joel and Avram Glazer, retains majority equity with approximately 71 percent of the club's shares. Sir Jim Ratcliffe manages the footballing direction following his initial 2024 stake purchase, which increased to 28.94 percent after an additional cash injection.
Day-to-day operations are handled by CEO Omar Berrada on behalf of Ratcliffe. Manchester United plc functions as the top parent company incorporated in the Cayman Islands and listed on the New York Stock Exchange, utilizing a corporate holding chain established during the Glazers' 2005 buyout.
