Spencer Steer To Undergo Wrist Surgery

Cincinnati Reds utilityman Spencer Steer will undergo surgery next week to repair a torn tendon sheath in his right wrist. Manager Terry Francona announced the decision after Steer experienced discomfort while ramping up his swing intensity over the weekend. Steer originally suffered the injury in late July, and the team opted for surgery now so he is expected to be ready for Spring Training.

Additionally, reliever Tony Santillan will require hip labrum surgery, with his recovery timeline to be determined after the procedure. Before his injury, the 28-year-old Steer posted a .238 batting average with 16 home runs across 384 plate appearances this season. He remains under team control with two seasons of arbitration eligibility remaining.
