Nuñez blazes way into Nats’ record book with most stolen bases in a season

Washington Nationals infielder Nasim Nuñez set a franchise single-season record for stolen bases during a 4-2 victory against the Detroit Tigers at Comerica Park on Wednesday. After singling off reliever Jacob Waguespack in the seventh inning, Nuñez stole second and third base to reach 49 stolen bases on the year, surpassing CJ Abrams' previous club record of 47 set in 2023.

Nuñez's quick baserunning allowed him to score on a James Wood groundout. Nationals manager Blake Butera praised the 26-year-old's growth and decision-making on the basepaths, noting the work done with coaches Corey Ray and Michael Johns. Nuñez leads the majors in stolen bases, ahead of Tampa Bay's Chandler Simpson and Chicago's Pete Crow-Armstrong.
